Instructor Candidate Guidelines
Candidates must have taken a DSP class before you start the application process. Please refer to
PAGE 17 in the Leadership Training and Policy Guide. There is a chart on that page that gives the 5 step training process.
1 The Instructor accepts the Instructor Application and forwards it to the District Coordinator.
2. The District Coordinator will make an appointment to complete the Instructor Candidate Interview Questions. If the applicant appears to be a viable candidate, the candidate will complete the AARP Sensitive Information Form and the District Coordinator will start the Instructor Candidate Profile. The DC will submit an on-line Personnel Form to the VMIS Manager to initiate the Volunteer ID number process.
3. The VMIS Manager will create a Volunteer ID number and e-mail a copy of the “Welcome Letter” to the District Coordinator and the Trainer. The District Coordinator will make a hard copy of the letter and mail it to the candidate.
4. The VMIS Manager will e-mail the Chief Trainer giving the Instructor Candidates Name, Volunteer I.D. number, Section, Zone and Trainers Name. The Chief Trainer will enter the candidate into the Instructor Candidate Training Log.
5. When the District Coordinator receives the Volunteer ID number, the DC calls the Instructor Candidate and make an appointment to cover the Introduction & Policy Guide. If a mentor is currently being used this information would be forwarded to the mentor.
6. When the Introduction & Policy Guide is completed, the DC notifies the trainer to schedule instructor training.
7. When the Trainer completes the Instructor Candidate's training, the Trainer will complete the Trainer section of the Instructor Candidate Profile. The Trainer will e-mail, FAX, or mail the original application to the DC and notifies the Chief Trainer by e-mail or FAX that the training is complete. The Trainer will keep a copy of all paperwork on the candidate for one year and will then destroy that copy.
8. The Trainer will request the name badge and labels.
9. After the Candidate has completed the first complete class, the DC will notify VMIS via the on-line Personnel Form and the Chief Trainer via e-mail.
10. The original Instructor Application and AARP Sensitive Information Form shall become a permanent part of the Instructor’s file.
